Winter Ramble - Days One through Three - Spearfish to Terlingua TX

The Plan: Trailer "Freya" my 2014 BMW R1200 GS Adv South out of snow country, pick up a friend in Alamosa CO and head into New Mexico. Kip my riding partner for this trip is the famous Buell Man from my Inuvik and Cabo San Lucas trips. Great rider and companion, he will be on a new to him Tiger 800 XCA. We'll drop the truck and trailer at a friends, in Alamogordo NM and head South and East, hit Big bend NP, head down to Brownsville, then up the Gulf Coast towards Louisiana and a rendezvous with a couple of Cajun brethren. After the rendezvous, I'll head back West towards the truck. Haven't really thought too much about the route back other than to stay the hell off of the Slab, been there done that. Looking for "Not to be missed" roads, places, kitsch, food and to see where Trump wants to build his wall. Always game for a cup of coffee or a beer along the way. Day 15 -It's a wrap! And a little Recap of my 2019 March Ramble

Day 15 I woke at 0500 and after a crappy cup of Econolodge coffee, I was on the road by 0530. The McDonalds next door provided sustenance and an Americano to see me to Cheyenne via I-25. Fuel in Cheyenne and up US-85 to Torrington, Lusk, Newcastle, a jog over to Sundance WY via WY 585 and home via I-90. It was obvious that a Blizzard had been through as the snow fences in Wyoming had the most beautiful wind-sculpted drifts on their downwind side. I arrived home in Spearfish SD at 11:30 after a quick 388-mile journey. Sunrise North East of Cheyenne A little bit cooler than I'm used to after two weeks in the South! Some of thos "wind sculpted drifts" My own "Black Hills" on the horizon I always wonder why this Butte remains and the others are gone? Day 14 and 15 - a Dash across Texas to Alamogordo, Alamogordo to Longmont CO

Day 14 - Thursday, March 14th - Fredericksburg, TX to Alamogordo, NM A blast down I-10, a lot of Texas Puckerbrush! I left my motel in Fredericksburg just after 0700, the sun was just coming over the yardarm, it was a cool 52 with a little breeze. As I ran out US 290 towards I-10 I was worried about deer and other ungulates jumping out in front of me. There are quite a few dead animals along the road and a healthy colony of Buzzards that keep the carcasses picked clean. I saw one dead Hog, damn glad someone else hit that baby! JSNS The temperature never got above 58F all day, I pulled into my friends in Alamogordo about 1430 after a 7 hour 577-mile run, thank God for Cruise Control! Thursday's route: After loading Freya, my friend Chuck and I went to a nice little Mexican place for a good supper, I had Pork Chops Azteca (Two thick Chops Marinated in a red chili marinade, Grilled and then dressed with Red Chili.
