Ramblin' Day 4 - Big Bend

It was damn cold this morning. Weather Bug said 34, there was Ice on the handrails outside, Ice on the cars, Ice on the bikes. We opted for breakfast at the Bad Rabbit, they had a busy weekend, out of Eggs. I had the Lo-Carb Option - Biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. The biscuits were fresh from the oven, guess that is why we waited 45 minutes for our order, that and everybody else and their uncle was in the restaurant too. We hung out in our room until noon, the forecast hadn't changed much but it did look warmer down by the river so about 1300 we sallied forth. 34F when we left, snow/frost.ice on the hilltops around us but no ice on the bikes when we left. You can see the white tinge on the hills behind us as we were about to leave. We dropped 1,500 feet going to Terlingua and the temp was 42F when we gassed before entering the park. We rode to the mouth of the Santa Elena Canyon, about 70 miles into the park. As always the park speed limits are ridiculous, 35/45 mph. We considered the limits but were judicious in our consideration, perhaps a little more judicious in that my RD had gone missing as a result of some of the previous days' adventures. We did encounter one Federale but we saw him long before he saw us so "No Harm - No Foul". Some spectacular mountains in Mexico on our way to Santa Elena Canyon After Santa Elena Canyon we headed across the park to Boquillas Crossing. We arrived there at about 1715, had a quick look-see and beat feet for Terlingua and supper. As the sun went down and the altitude went up from 2,000 ft to 4,000ft the temperature went down, lowest I saw was 33F but the Electric Jacket and heated Grips did their job. By the time we arrived in Terlingua, it was nearly dark, the Starlite Theater had an hour-and-a-half wait so we opted for the Rio Bravo. Good choice, a great Chilli Colorado Roja (me) and Enchilada Pollo Verde (Kip). It was a cold 37 miles back up the hill to the Terlingua Ranch Resort Lodge, 33 F when we arrived and my damn headlights need adjustment badly. Tomorrows project. The cold sucked the life from my phone and I don't have many pix today. Kip took some but the Internet is not being kind to his phone and they are not transferring. Maybe tomorrow night somewhere South of Laredo!
